The Authentic Jamaica
A laid-back collection of fishing villages with dramatic coastline, untouched beaches, and the most welcoming community in Jamaica.
Treasure Beach is not one beach but a collection of fishing villages and coves stretching along St. Elizabeth's southern coast. This is Jamaica as it was before mass tourism - unhurried, authentic, and genuinely welcoming.
Unlike the developed north coast, Treasure Beach has deliberately maintained its low-key character. There are no all-inclusive resorts or cruise ship crowds here. Instead, you'll find small guesthouses, locally-owned restaurants, and miles of dramatic coastline where you might be the only visitor.
The area comprises four main beaches: Billy's Bay, Frenchman's Bay, Calabash Bay, and Great Bay. Each has its own character, from the calm waters of Billy's Bay to the dramatic waves of Frenchman's. The beaches are not the white sand of postcards - they're golden and dark, mixed with the volcanic minerals of the south coast.
The fishing community here maintains traditions that go back generations. Every day, fishermen head out in colorful wooden canoes and return with the day's catch. The BREDS community organization has built a remarkable model of sustainable tourism that benefits locals.
Treasure Beach is also gateway to the nearby Pelican Bar - an improbable wooden bar built on a sandbar a mile out to sea.
